Tennis

Twelve years of work on the court culminated in earning a spot on the Highland Park Giants Varsity tennis team. I'm hoping to take on a captain role this year as we push for a fourth straight conference title. Tennis has shaped me as much off the court as on it, building the confidence and discipline that make everything else in my life easier to manage.

Cross Country & Running

I ran cross country my first two years of high school before spending my fall semester of junior year at the High Mountain Institute in Colorado. There, I kept running, just at 10,000 feet. Training at altitude sharpened my times, and by the end of the year, a classmate and I ran an independent marathon through Leadville, home of the legendary 100-mile ultramarathon.

The most pivotal summers of my life have been at Camp Thunderbird for Boys in Bemidji, Minnesota, where my love for the wilderness was shaped through extensive backpacking trips into the Porcupine Mountains and canoe trips in the Canadian Boundary Waters. Without the use of technology, or any of the usual distractions, there was more space to think — to figure out who I am. The highlight of those six summers was a 21-day backcountry canoe expedition down the Bloodvein River in Canada. To prepare, I completed a whitewater canoe course in Duluth, Minnesota — one of the only places to learn.

Throughout winters at home, outside of Chicago, I find a way to enjoy the natural world. My dad, brothers and I take polar plunges in Lake Michigan, a tradition that is exactly as cold and exhilarating as it sounds.
